Final Project: Biography Gift Box Project: Due date: Thursday, June 13

Dear parents,
The students will start a “Biography gift box project” as a final French project for this year.  They will be given time to do this project in class. They should not have to do very much at home, unless time is wasted at school. Parents can help by giving some ideas, but students have been given more specific directions and useful websites in French. In order to make a gift box, they need to bring a shoe box and wrapping paper to the class.

Please read this outline with your child at home, and sign on the line at the end of this outline. Thank you!

1. Students should choose a famous Canadian that they would like to research and to know more about. (They should find someone that not everyone knows. So, please do not choose Terry Fox or Justin Bieber)
2. After they have researched, using all the information they collected, they should start writing a rough copy. They should include the following information about the person:
  1. a)      Where the person was born and grew-up
  2. b)      Where the person went to school
  3. c)      The family and family background
  4. d)      What the person did that was important / how the person changed Canada or the world
  5. e)      The person’s passion and challenge
  6. f)       Explain how the person inspires others.
  7. g)      Choose three symbolic objects which represent the person’s character or life.
  8. h)      Choose one quote from the person

The research report should help them decide on gifts that would be appropriate to give that person based on what they have learned.
3. After having checked the rough copy, they should start writing a good copy.
4.  After the good copy, they should start planning a gift box based on what they have learned about the person. They should wrap the gift box and put four different gifts inside the box. Create the gifts out of construction paper and other craft material. EX. Necklace, pens etc. Items that are not handmade will not count towards the mark.
5. Finally, they will create a greeting card for the person, and in the card they should explain the reasons they chose each of these gifts. Reasons for each gift should be detailed and supported by events from the person’s life. Attach the card to the gift box.

Dans une petite maison, Il entre sans frapper ;

Et pour se réchauffer, S’assoit sur le poêle rouge, Et d’un coup disparaît.

Ne laissant que sa pipe, Au milieu d’une flaque d’eau, Ne laissant que sa pipe, Et puis son vieux chapeau.
